Motorsport Legends

The Rothmans Porsche 962C pictured above managed an astonishing win at the 1987 24 Hours of Le Mans when it managed to win a full 20 laps ahead of the pack. To place this into relativity, an average lap of the Sarthe Circuit at the time would take around 3:45, thus the car was a full hour and fifteen minutes ahead of any competition. Ironically, however, this would be Porsche’s final win with the 962 until 1994.

This particular car was powered by one of the final derivations of the Type-935 straight six engine, whose displacement within this car measured to 3.0 Litres, and it was, as always, turbocharged; this time, to develop around 650bhp, on the Porsche’s approximately 880kg chassis.
